Pastor Dennis Smith

At the time of publishing of this page, Dennis Smith is serving as pastor the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church in New Haven, CT.

He has over 35 years of pastoral experience and is a Graduate of Andrews University Theological Seminary. He also studies public health at Loma Linda University, CA.

Dennis has a special interest in the biblical teaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In 1999, together with his wife Patty, he started studying and praying for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Soon afterwards, they felt a new spiritual life was taking hold of them both, and almost immediately Dennis started writing about the things he was learning and experiencing. He has written a series of books on this topic (read an excerpt from his book The Baptism of The Holy Spirit on the topic of overcoming temptation).

We are pleased to offer you, in video format, a number of sermons he preached in 2006 and 2007. We hope they will lead you to experience the infilling with the Holy Spirit.

I often believe that I have been such a diasnpointmept. But, know that when God sees me he sees Jesus. But, here is what I often think about. If God sees Jesus who died for all of our sins, what does Jesus see when he looks down on earth. I try so very hard to be a good person and when I try really hard, I fail. But, when I run to Jesus to say I am sorry, he holds out his arms takes me into a tight hug and tells me it is okay. Go try again but, let me help you. Each day is better than the day before.

In spritual matters, we, as a Church live in truly momentous times. Last quarter's SS Lesson Quarterly brought out the biblican fact that the apostle, Paul in his letter to the former pagan, now Judeo-Christian believers in Galatia, was NOT criticizing those converts for "returning to" days, weeks, months and years of the Levitical calendar, which Paul had taught them when they converted. Paul was not telling them to stop observing those Levitical times which they had never observed in the first place. How absurd!

The author of the Quarterly was referring to Galatians 4:8-11. That author then referred his readers to the fact that the seventh-day Sabbath;Sabbaton in Greek, Shabbat in Hebrew, was, and is today, among the five Covanental types of Levitical laws.

You know what they are. clean meats, what one drinks, keeping the new moon observances, keeping the yearly holy convocations (the yearly festivals), and THE WEEKLY SABBATH. Verse 17 puts the truth to any prevarication about the hanging of the feasts of Yahweh to His cross. It says that the five items listed by Paul in Col. 2: 16 are shadows (types, whose anti-types have not come to pass yet, therefore apply today).

The most recent Adventist Review issue has Andy Nash, an English instructor, saying that the author of last quarter's SS Lesson Quarterly, a man who has double Phd's relating to New Testament Scriptures, was possibly wrong about Galatians 4:8-11.
Andy goes further to say that the weekly Sabbath was not what was meant in Col. 2:16. Nash apparently denies that Paul's use of the Greek word, "Sabbaton" means the weekly Sabbath day. A Ron Duprees has attempted to say the same identical thing. He is not a theologian. He is a pastor who works with Amazing Facts.

It would appear then that the Church is now divided between those who are, in fact, pronomian (for God's Torah Law) and those who choose to stand against it. They are sometimes called "antinomian."

In reading the online postings of people representing other Christian denominations, I've noticed an increasing chorus of those who ask the question: Given the true understanding of Galatians 4:8-11 and Col. 2:16, if the Adventist Church observes the weekly Sabbath correctly, then why not the yearly feast days and new moons??

Acts 15 can no longer be used against the observance of the yearly feasts since the four statutes quoted by Paul came from the "Law of Moses." They were not the only limits placed on new convderts from pagan religions. It states that the new converts would learn the rest of God's ways for His people, "for Moses is read in the synagogues every Sabbath."

God be with His Church as she must deal with the basics of Christ's religion as practiced by the apostle, Paul and the others as well.

Small correction to the title of the book, Galatians.... It is Galatians, "A Firey Response To A Struggling Church."

I suppose what this should mean to etnnic Jews who wish to come to a local SDA Church and who, while there, "dress Jewish" (yarmulka and talith (prayer shawl) can defend against being called, by less well educated non-Jewish believers, "practicing anti-Christ by keeping those Jewish feast days." I was even asked if I killed little animals as atonement for my sins. That has happened to me, and it has happened to others I know. Such unScriptural ideas about God's mo'adiym (appointed times which existed in heaven before sin entered the world, as did the Sabbath, now that the real truth about Paul's statements in Galatians and Colosians is out in the open, should not again be spoken to those who practice Jesus' New Covenant religion in which they find more and more of His spirit and His love expressed to His children.

Yom Kippur is needed to remind all of us, as is evidenced by the obvious need in His Church, that A. We are all of sinful nature, every one of us. B.As is
going on in the heavenly Sanctuary yet, we are called to memorialize the need to be "full and (then) empty, and abased (while full of ourselves) then lifted up (humble believers in Jesus) by the power of the Holy Spirit. Peace in Yeshua-Jesus. The Day of Atonement is one of His mo'adiym.

To Betti and others who might be wondering about the quarter's lesson study on Galatians, about to end.
The author, Professor Carl P. Cosaert, a man I have conversed with several times in SS classes, has in real essence, begun the turning of the corner on the law in Galatians. It is an interpretation which I and other thoughtful Jews should easily accept.

I encourage everyone to obtain a copy of his fine book; a companion to the lesson quarterly. Both are titled, Galatians, A Firey Letter To A Struggling Church." He states that Galatians 4, vs. 10 does NOT say that
Paul is saying the Galatians were turning back to the Levitical feast days. The professor is here saying that Paul, of all people, would not have called anything that came from the lips
of God the Son as having come from the "no gods," or that they were "weak and beggarly."

He then makes a bold reference statement to Colossians 2:16, saying that the five things listed there are, "meat, drink, the new moon celebrations, the yearly feast days ("a feast day") and the Sabbath (Sabbaton, in Greek; the weekly seventh day rest day.). Verse 17 states: For these are shadows (types whose antitypes have not yet been completely fulfilled).

These special God-appointed times are part and parcel of the New Covenant, as listed in Exodus 34. The Jerusalem Council can no longer be used in efforts to say that the four statutes from the "Law of Moses" were the only requirments for Gentiles to worship in the synagogues with Jewish Christians, because the text in Acts says that the
Gentile converts to Judeo-Christianity would learn the rest "for Moses is read in the synagogues every Sabbath."

Whether one, SDA or any other, decides to observe these holy times each year, but in a Messianic, Jesus-centered way, is up to each individual to decide, just as importantly as whether one decides to keep the Sabbath day holy.

All of God's holy times existed before sin. Satan said that he wanted to "rise
above the stars of heaven, and that he would sit on the mount of the mo'adiym (God's appointed times). Mrs. White stated: "The final struggle will not be between rival churches competing for the supremacy. It will be between two systems of worship: the true and the false. Sunday is the top of the false system. Christmas, Easter, All Hallows Eve, and others are the false system.

The other system is the one God the Son gave at Mt. Horeb. Moses wrote them in a book which included the 10 Commandments and the supporting statutes and judgments, all from God to us, forever. Baruch ata Adonai elohenu malech ha-olam. May He come soon. Amen

I met you at a Prayer Conference for Allegheny West Conference. I talked with you after the conference and you told me about one of your books which addresses emotional healing. Could you email me the name of your book(s) on that topic? One of your presentations was on this topic and it was very powerful. I would like to study further.

That conference has changed my life and I want to read and learn as much as I can. I have read one of your books twice 1st-40 days of Prayer and Fasting and completed Abiding in Christ.

I'm on a mission...a prayer saturated church in Allegheny West.

Thank you for your assistance. May God continue to bless you as you bless others.

Dear Betti,
I felt a need to respond to your questions, sent to Pastor Smith, about the holy days of the Law of God.
God is the Author of His religion. Jesus is God the Son, who gave the Covanental Law to Moses on Mt. Horeb.

the plan truth is that the only religion and feast days which existed in Christ's time on earth, were the Sabbath, the Feast of Unleabvened Bread (Passover)
Shavuot (Pentecost)
Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah)
Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)
Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot.

In Leviticus 23 we read that God said unto Moses, Say to the children of Israel, these are My feasts. The Sabbath is the first one listed. It is separated from the rest because it is the only holy time not dependent on the number of days since a New Moon crescent is observed.

The only reason that Messianic Jews today observe them is that they are prophetic. Pentecost/Shavuot is the day when Jesus gave the Covenant to His people. It is also the day upon which the Holy Spirit descended to the Disciples, who then really became apostles.
Yom Kippur, 1844 began the typical/antitypical Day of Atonement

We are to now be earnestly seeking to
invite the Holy Spirit into our lives, allowing Him to show us our sins, and sinful ways, asking His pardon and His work in our lives. This prepares us for the soon coming Feast of Tabernacles, and the eighth day, Shemini Atzaret, The Marriage Supper of the Lamb. It is all yet future.

Dear Pastor Dennis Smith,
Greetings in Jesus Name!
I considered this an opportunity for me to serve the lord with you in India.
‘GILGAL MISSION & MINISTRIES that works in the western ghuard of Tamil Nadu with existing churches for Christian nature of urban and rural believers and with the gospel of Jesus Christ to reach UN reached.
Our vision is to motivate and create change of standard Christian Book to be avail for less privileged of poor villagers, Urban, Tribal and migrated tea plantation workers as renewal of Christian faith for their soul as it is precious in the sight of god. And make them to be a disciples for Christ to reach un- reached.
We were able start our work between the gypsy tribal and interior villages, since 1977. We planted 27 worshipping groups in different villages. We gave the glory to God for His enabling strength to us to carry the gospel to the unreached.
Both my wife and I started to preach the gospel to the gypsy tribal and to interior villagers group. Whenever they look at us on the streets they use to say 'look Jesus is coming', they were in such an ignorance, but as we are keep on preaching the gospel, the Lord started working in wonderful way - touching the people and healing them from their stomach tumor and eye bleeding and touched the barren women to have child. With two members a worship group started in the interior village. The Lord opened many hearts to receive Him as their savior. Now we have 75 people altogether. Likewise worshipping groups has been formed and every worship group has no church building but they gather in one of the believers' home. We need the church buildings, but the daily wages people are not able to afford for it, while they are looking to us the crippled beggars was looking at the apostle's, Peter and John expecting to meet their daily needs. We do invite you to come forward to assist us building churches.
We request young people from the tribal groups to surrender their lives to serve the Lord. Hence we are giving training to these young people, so that they can take care of small churches that are started in the villages. Many young people committed their lives to God's work, but due to lack of facility and funds we are not able to give official training. The reason we are waiting and looking to the Lord for His church and His people is to involve in such training. Please do pray for the resources and to continue the bible school, so that the churches that are established in the villages will have sufficient pastors and evangelists. We appreciate your prayers and support. Looking forward to hear from you.

Hello Pr

I understand that you are to come to New Zealand at some stage this year (2010).

I just thought to ask you a Question from a bar of Soap. Do you Authorise "Praying to the Holy Spirit as A Sperate Being other than the Father and the Son" or "Do you teach that we are to Worship the Holy Spirit"??? If you could reply on an Answer with direct Passage from the Word of God/Bible that would be great!!!, if this cannot be answer, why then is this concept beginning to be taught within the Churches?

We recently received an email from a ed Archbald concerning a missing piece to the 1888 message concerning the holy days verses pagan holidays. He claims this was the subject during the presession leading up to the Minneapolis conference of 1888 and that the leadership did not accept this. Do you know anything about this and should we as SDAs be keeping these holy days? Thanks

Greetings in the Precious Name of Jesus,

Two years ago I awake in the middle of the night and heard you speaking on 3abn. i stopped in my tracks it was as if God answered my prays out loud. I felt for sometime now that there was something lacking in our churches and you hit the nail right on the head The Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I brought this topic up many times in our church circles but got the same routine response. when I heard you I knew it was God ordained.
are you willing to come to the Bahamas and conduct a seminar on the topic?
What will it cost ?
May God bless your ministry. Don't give up.

Dear Beloved in christ,

Warm and holy Christian greetings to you in the powerful name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, from Mindanao island, Philippines.
It's a suprise perhaps when you receive this email. it's our gratitude and honor if you can brotherly and lovingly spend a minute of your time reading this email from a follower of christ also, like you, inspite of your hectic daily divine undertakings, Praise the Lord!
Now it's my pleasure and honor to indroduce mu humble self, I'm Bro. Edgardo E. Grande Sr. 54 years old, married to Julia and gracefully blessed four children, My household devote special time together with some brethren here in ministering the Gospel among the people living in this big island starting in my hometown Tagum City, province of Davao del Norte, eastern part of Mindanao island Philippines, through worship services and prayer meetings and we have programe to conduct soul winning and Bible studies in a day to day schedule, personal evangelism, follow-up Bible studies in urban and mountain villages, passing gospel tracts , mini evangelical rallies and tiny Bible Discipling and training to those who are willing to work in the Lord's vineyard. We are not affiliated to any group or denomination both here and abroad. Our Gospel works is purely run by faith without any local and national or foriegn church covering. The brethren here and I had prayed for a couple of years now that someday their is a servant of God like you who upholds the Real Great Truths that could help us and to pray to our Holy God the Almighty Father regarding our very needs for the expansion of God's Kingdom here in Mindanao island, Philippines.
I am also writing to you in faith, by hoping and believing that you could lovingly share to us greately needed Gospel study and teaching materials like books and teaching tapes or any kind of teaching materials to be use especially for our tiny Bible discipling and training, and which we could wisely and prayerfully use for the spiritual nourishment of our spiritually-starved brethren here. We humbly admit that we cannot afford to buy these much needed food for our souls due to poor living condition we are suffering here.
Furthermore, it is sad to say that 85% of our total population are idol worshippers, since this is the stronghold and deep ravine of the Roman Catholisism, the Vatican widens their dogmatic religious influence that Mary and other graven images are co-equal with God. Including the pope as the vicar of Christ, millions of Filipinos who are Roman Catholic believers flooded to the church every Sunday, out numbering the TRUE believers of God.
I know that we are in the same burden for the lost and dying souls, so we desperately need a strong support from you especially in prayers to battle against their spurious influence in order to win the lost souls to the body of Christ, we care because Jesus cares.
In our daily endeavors, many times we encountered persecutions, trials and even empty stomachs, but we are not discouraged because we have deep compassion for the lost and dying precious fellowmen who are sadly blinded to know the Real Great Truths, painfully perishing and forever lost without knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ loves them so much. We feel burden in our hearts to win them to Christ before it is too late.
Lastly, we pray that you not neglect our humblest and sincerest desire for the expansion of God's Kingdom here in the Philippines. Hopefully that your loving heart will feel generous spiritual attention and will have divine trust and confidence in us in behalf of God's spiritual concerns, and rest assure that we will always get in touch with you through our emails and fervent prayers. our prayers that God will richly bless you, yours and your church and all your divine undertakings. Thanks and God Bless

I began realizing that when I let the Holy Spirit in, it is not an end in itself. It is the essential beginning of my life's transformation. Transformation to what? Learning how to be obedient to Christ's (God's) will. What is God's will for me? To obey all of His commandments as contained in what we blood-Jews call the written Torah.

What laws does Torah contain that Jesus wants me to obey? Pastor Smith answers this very well, indeed. He talks about the various laws of health and happiness in the Bible. They are found in the first five books of the Law God, Father and Son and Holy Spirit, gave to Moses. Jesus often pointed His critics back to it by saying: "What sayeth the Law of Moses?" ("Law of Moses" was how the people in Jesus' day on earth referred to that Law.)

The Moral Law, as outlined in Exodus 20, Exodus 34, Leviticus 23, all contain the giving of the Covenant. Israel broke it. He, after Moses prostrated himself before an angry God, reiterated that same Law, but with the addition of His ordinances, Statutes and Judgements, which includes the Sabbath of the fourth Commandment, and all the other of what He called "My feasts." The animal sacrifices and priesthood were all forseen as coming to an end ("He shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease.").

A famous female modern-day prophet said, "In the time of the end every Divine institution is to be restored."This will be done "to repair the breach in the Law when the Sabbath was changed into Sunday." See Prophets and Kings, 100, 101, and 678. They "were established to guard the Ten Commandments." They are the Statutes and Judgements." How do today's SDA's see the prophecies of the female prophet? Council of Nicea, AD 325.
1888 GC didn't connect October 22, 1844 to the prophetic Day of Atonement yet to come. It was at Yom Kippur then.

With all your books "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" which would you say we should read 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. or does it matter? We (my husband & I) have raed SB & Waiting of God, SB & Abiding In Christ and now we are reading SB & the 1888 Message. Haven & I feel strongly about the 1888 message & what it brought to our church, but they rejected it, again, & again, & now for the past 3 or 4 years we are hearing about the message again & our conference leaders up in arms again & if you speek about it, they might what you run out of the church. BUT, the Lord must want this message to go to all the world since He keeps bringing it around again & again, as if He was looking for a people to believe it, totally. I would like to have you come & present a 5 day series at our church, I think it is greatly needed, but I'm not so sure our conf. pres. Moyer would let you speak. I pray that God will give you & your family a blessed Sabbath day.
